Process Paper
I decided on Steve Jobs after considering many other topics such as the Band-Aid, the first airplane, and the Muppets. Since this year's theme is “Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, and Events”, I thought that Steve Jobs fit into all of these categories much better than the Band-Aid or the Muppets because he completely revolutionized the computer, MP3 player, tablet, phone, etc. I also am very interested in technology and have been inspired by Jobs' work.
I started conducting my research by going to the Connecticut History Museum and listening to a presentation on primary and secondary sources. Influenced by this, I started looking for primary sources (pictures, quotes, letters, songs) and secondary sources (articles, books, websites). One good primary source I had was a reply from Steve Wozniak(Steve Jobs' companion in Apple) and the Computer History Museum consulting my inquiries on Steve Jobs. By doing this, I found out about other people's opinions on Steve Jobs and Apple. One good secondary source I had was Who Was Steve Jobs written by Pam Pollack. This helped me understand a little bit of background knowledge on Steve Jobs. Furthermore, I created an outline, which helped me organize my information.
I selected doing a website because I had never done a website before, so it was something new. I had done exhibits in the past, so I wanted to come out of my comfort zone. Also, stated in my first paragraph, I am interested in technology, so a website seemed like the best category for me to participate in.
Steve Jobs relates to the NHD theme because he was a person who influenced technology and had an idea of Apple. He created Apple, which was a huge change in technology. Before, computers were very hard to work with and to understand. Apple made human-friendly computers, which were so much easier to understand and at a low price. Apple made so many breakthroughs, like with the iPhone, the iPad, the iPod, and iTunes. Steve Jobs also, at Pixar Animations, helped create the movies “The Incredibles”, “Finding Nemo”, and “Toy Story”. These movies made $4 billion dollars in profit! Steve Jobs made incredible, incredible technological breakthroughs, and contributed so much to the future of technology.
